Allocated to March MPD in October 1963 as BR No.61181 and transferred to Departmental Stock on December 7th, 1963. It was renumbered by March 15th, 1964 and the primary use for the locomotive was not carriage heating but to supply steam for the Repair Shop and boiler washouts. It was also employed, as required, as a heating unit to ensure that diesel locomotive fleet remained operational throughout the winter. It was stored at the MPD during the summers of 1964 and 1965. It was withdrawn in December 1965 and during the latter period it may have been used as a stationary boiler at the shed before being sold for scrap to Garnham, Harris & Eltham Ltd of Lockerford Sidings, Chesterfield in February 1966
