BR DEPARTMENTAL DEPOTS & STABLING POINTS
The Ex-LNER Class B1 4-6-0 Departmental Locomotives
INCLUDING OPERATING LOCATIONS & SERVICING
FACILITIES

Allocated to New England MPD when withdrawn from normal service on January 3rd, 1965 as BR No.61138. It is believed that it was then re-allocated to Kings Lynn but almost immediately transferred to Departmental Stock on January 23rd, 1965 and moved to Norwich Thorpe MPD as a replacement for No.20. It was used at Norwich Carriage Sidings, Lowestoft Central or Yarmouth Vauxhall Stations and returned to the MPD each Saturday during the winter. By February 27th, 1965 the locomotive had been renumbered as No.26, it was stored at the MPD during the summer of 1965 and transferred, under its own steam, to March MPD on December 10th, 1965. The primary role for the locomotive here was use as the depot stationary boiler and to ensure that diesel locomotives remained operational throughout the winter. The locomotive was observed in store at the MPD on March 27th, 1967 and was withdrawn in October in the same year. It was sold for scrap to TW Ward of Killamarsh and moved there in January 1968.
