Each of the locations dealt with has a brief resumé of its history, the locomotives allocated, a map and, where available, photographs of the site and/or the locomotives allocated there. All of the locomotives that fall within the scope of this subject are similarly listed along with a brief allocation history
The pages are grouped into three main sections;
1. Departmental & Engineering Depots.
2. MPDs & Diesel Depots with Departmental Locomotive Allocations and
3. The Locomotives. Within this is a sub-section dealing comprehensively with The ex-LNER Class B1 4-6-0 Locomotives which were chiefly employed for carriage heating during the 1960s
We have tried to maintain the “feel” of the early BR style throughout the design and have utilized the original regional colours where ever appropriate
This is very much a “work in progress” and we will warmly welcome

Whilst engaged in research for our series of engine shed books with Roger Griffiths we came across quite a lot of information about Departmental Depots which did not fall within our remit as it then was. Whilst the subjects of engine sheds and locomotives have been very well covered over the years this particular aspect had missed out somewhat and we resolved to correct it.
Initially it was planned to publish it in a book form but as the data base grew it became obvious that to produce it as comprehensively and well illustrated as we wished was simply economically unviable. Switching to a website has numerous advantages; it is freely accessible, easy to update and unlimited as to the volume of information that can be presented.
Since this decision was taken our only concern has been as to the scope. All of the steam locomotives and their depots and stabling points have, obviously, been included along with diesel and electric locomotives into the 1970s. Exclusions include virtually all the ADB designated locos, dmus and emus such as those converted to train heating units and the Class 08s converted to Snow Ploughs etc. Depots built solely to accommodate PW machines, such as Carmarthen, are similarly omitted.
